Winter Hibernation? More like Winter Workout!

Hiyaaaaaa everyone!

It's been such a long time and I know I use this excuse every time but I have seriously been such a busy bee over the past couple of months. It has been so incredible that I have to share what I have been up to and what exactly are my Autumn/Winter projects.

 Did someone say Short Film?

 Prophetic Justice - Take 2000!

 Prophetic Justice - Take 2000!

Yes, tis true that I am currently working on writing, producing and directing my first 3 minute short film, which will go towards my final grade at college. Whilst it has been a long, stressful (mostly me causing my own stress) and difficult process, I'm happy to report that things are looking great and I'm very proud of everyone that is involved.

What is this short film about, Dobbs? Well I'll tell you. The title of it is Prophetic Justice and here is a little synopsis to tease you:

A young girl with Asperger Syndrome describes her view of the future in a 1989 time capsule video despite the doubts & fears of the present society. Only the future will tell if she’s right or wrong…

The film should be out around late December / early January. I feel so honoured that I can use this film to showcase how amazing people on the Autistic Spectrum are, hopefully you all will like it!

This Is Halloween!

Yes! Don't we all love a bit of Halloween? I hope everyone had an awesome (yet safe) time on Halloween. My Halloween lasted for 3 days (I don't have the third picture yet), which meant a different costume for each day (bye bye money!)

But I had such a blast! I hope you all enjoyed my Halloween Extravaganza last Friday, where I dressed up as Skeleton Jack, King of the Pumpkin Patch and if you missed it, you can catch again on Break London on the 4th of Nov 2013 4-6PM!

 Polish Commenius in London!

1374276_533396700072879_250744053_n.jpg

Remember how in June, myself and a few of my peers from college went on a exchange trip to Poland? Well, we opened our arms and homes to the students in Poland who hosted us and we got to show them a Londoners lifestyle.

It was a lovely few days; we explored the sights of London, managed to catch (not literally) a West End show and even got to ride in the London Eye, which moves a lot faster than you would think.

I hope the students in Poland had an enjoyable and memorable stay and I hope we visit each other soon!

Is It The Shoe's Festival by Parable!

Break London and APE Media were lucky enough to be a sponsor to an event called Is It The Shoe's, which was an incredible 4 day festival put on by We Are Parable on the impact trainers have had on pop culture. I was grateful to be on of their DJ's alongside Sillky Froback and AudioSpyder on the first day of the festival. It was an incredible night and exhibition from We Are Parable, who pride themselves on telling stories through the power of events. Hopefully, we are invited back for future events as I know we'd love to work with them again!

Kiss FM Chosen One 2013 Auditions!

When Kiss Meets Break - Me & Sillky Froback with Kiss FM Presenters, Aj & Andrea.

When Kiss Meets Break - Me & Sillky Froback with Kiss FM Presenters, Aj & Andrea.

At the beginning of Last Month, Kiss FM alongside Garnier UK held open auditions at the two Westfields (Shepards Bush & Stratford City) for their next presenter. A load of  your favourite Break London presenters tried out such as Sillky Froback, Chris Samuels, Mya & Jazzmine, Rebecca and Nissy Tee but alas none us won. However do want to say a big congrats to the winner Charlie Tisma and theres always next year to try out. Congrats to all who went out & tried!

Intelligentsia Presents!

 Summoning the Disco Fairies

 Summoning the Disco Fairies

Yes, Intelligentsia Fridays had our second official Intelligentsia Presents night at Strongroom Bar in Shoreditch. It was an amazing night filled with laughs, mad antics and of course CHOONES. It was nice being able to get on the decks with my Intelligentsia Crew and just battle it out. Cannot wait for the next one and will keep you updated on when that will be!

So thats what I have been getting up to during these increasingly colder months. I hope you all have had an awesome couple of months too and I promise I'll try my hardest to keep you all updated with the latest that's going on. You can also hear the latest by listening in to my show every Friday from 4-6PM with repeats on Monday at the same time.

Love & Fairy Dust,

"Shout!" - Break London Style!

Hello my lovelies! How are you all doing?

I just wanna start this off by thanking you all for the great response to "Dobby's Back To School Guide" and trust me, there is going to be a lot more guides coming your way! *pops party poppers like so*

tumblr_mcksfoMVWd1rhu7ofo1_500.gif

BUUTTTTT... that is not what this blog post is about! Oh no, earlier today during my show I had to play The Isley Brothers - Shout, which many of you would recognise from the cult classic film Animal House. Now I wanted to recreate the scene in the Break London Studios and pretty much grabbed anyone who was in the studio to get involved. I know our dancing is phenomenal but please note we are not professional dancers *cough* but I want to say a HUGE thank you to those involved starting with Pops (AudioSpyder), Sillky Froback, Immy May, Uncle Trevor, Sophia & Markus!

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Till the next blog post,

Dobbs xoxo

Dobby's Survival Guide for going back to School.

Hello all that are reading this!

I'm sorry that I haven't blogged in such a long while. Since the beginning of summer I believe, and now we're here the end of summer, wondering where all the time went and, like me, wondering why you have to go back to school/college/uni.

After spending a wonderful summer working my lil tush off (and no, not in the way Miley Cyrus did at the VMA's) presenting and mentoring at several summer schools, I've now found myself on the 1st of September preparing myself physically & emotionally to head back to college.

Now I know this is easier said than done so I want to help you all with a few tips on surviving the first day back at school.

1. Sweet Dreams!

you-only-sleep-8-hours-Cant-Believe-It-Koala-meme.jpg

I know from personal experience and from everyone I've ever met, that as soon as we have some time off from "normal" life, our sleep pattern goes out the window. And nothing sucks more than trying to get your body back into its routine. I have spent many a night trying to get to sleep early and it just failing epicly. But what we need to remember is this: we need 8 and half hours or more sleep each night to even function properly.

If you have trouble sleeping then one thing that works for me as lame as it sounds is just counting in my head until you drift off. But everyone is different, so just try different techniques till you find the one that works so when mum wakes you up in the morning like this:

tumblr_ms3fm2cmRq1s19mvpo1_500.gif

You don't look like this:

2. Breakfast is life!

tumblr_lnheaccQlp1qm520io1_400.jpg

Lawd knows I'm the moodiest bitch on the planet when I'm hungry and let me tell you that starting the day on a empty stomach is not the one. Like they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day (along with lunch and dinner too). Not only does it give you the energy you need to spend most of the day locked up with people you can just about tolerate, it just makes you feel a little better inside.

So whether you like eggs and bacon with a cuppa on the side, plain old cereal, exotic fruit platters or a pastry with coffee, breakfast is key, even Rory & Amy from Doctor Who approve!

3. Escape the commute!

h566DDABB.jpg

If like me you have to travel to Narnia to get to school/college/uni, you know there is nothing worse than the commute to and from there. If you think the people at your school/college/uni are idiots, the people on your commute are 10000000 times worse. (and not to mention its ridiculously expensive.)

But what can I do about it Dobbs?  I hear you scream. Well you can escape the commute. And when I say escape, I don't mean run away from every train station in sight. I mean escapism, bring a book along on your journey and read to escape the dull, depressing surroundings or bring your headphones and pretend you're in your own music video in your head like Joseph Gordon Levitt.

tumblr_mi7ynrEVOj1roatoao1_r1_500.gif

4. Come prepared... for the worst

who-needs-a-pencil-case_o_233351.jpg

Theres nothing worse than rushing around the night before or the morning, trying to get everything ready and you just cannot. But is it really worth being that annoying kid in class asking around for a pen or for a bit of paper? Nuff said.

rage_dude_can_i_borrow_a_pencil.jpg

5. Socialising in a shark pool when you're just a fish...

People-you-meet-in-High-School_o_21966.jpg

Where do I begin with this one? It sucks socialising at school, but its something we all have to do. It's draining to be stuck with a thousand and odd people everyday and pretend you all kinda, sorta get along to keep the peace within the school, trust me I know. I'd like nothing better to just scream at all the stupidity I have to see and hear day in, day out but in reality, its something we're all going to have to deal with in life.

So what can you do? There's no real simple answer. Some people like to kill with kindness, others like to avoid drama at all costs whilst some like to be upfront and mature about their issues with others, its all about who you are and the way you deal with different social situations.

tumblr_mlxwp3Ti1l1rijbg1o1_500.gif

6. Last but not least... home time is the best time.

going-to-school-going-home.jpg

So after a hard day back at school/college/uni theres only one thing we're looking forward to and that is going back home. I have to say that this is one of my fave times of day because I feel as if all stress washes away. Going back home should be a time where you relax and recharge, ready to go through the same bs the next day. Don't be afraid to take time out when you get home, regardless whether you have homework or not, to just completely relax. It works, trust me.

original.gif

I really hope this guide helps you and your battle that is the first day back at school/college/uni. (and if it hasn't, I hope it made you laugh at least.)

Till next yea... I mean next time!

Dobbs.

J. Cole's "Jodeci Freestyle" Autistic lyric: Ignorance is not an excuse!

Hiyaaaa! I know I don't do 'serious' often, but I felt that this needed to be addressed. As a big fan of modern hip-hop and J.Cole being one of my favourites and one of the hotly tipped rappers of this generation, it cames as a shock to me when in a collab with Drake on 'Jodeci Freestyle' he seemed to come out with an apparent diss to the Autism community.

As you may or may not know, I am in fact apart of that community. Both of my little brother have Autsim and Aspergers Syndrome and I, myself, am in fact being tested at the moment for Aspegers. The line is: I'm artistic, you n****s is autistic, retarded.

J.Cole has offended many within the autism community.

Now the last I checked, myself and my two little brothers are not "retarded." In fact, it is a common misconception of people with Autism, many of us actually have an IQ that is above average. In fact, did you know that many important historical figures such as Albert Einstein and Mozart were considered to have Autism?

I don't know if J.Cole intended to be ignorant to cause controversy or genuinely doesn't know all the facts of autism, but what I do know is that if I can educate & guide you to where you can be educated about Autism than I've done what I can to help you understand myself, my family & my community. If you want to find out a bit more about Autism and Aspergers then please take a look at this http://www.autism.org.uk

*UPDATE* Both J.Cole and Drake have apologised about the lyric and have removed it from the song. This comes after Anna Kennedy OBE along with the Anti Bullying Alliance set up a petition for an apology and for the lyric to be removed before the song was released on the 13th of July 2013. Whilst the apologies and removal of the lyric comes a little after the release of the song, it is a victory for the Autism Community! In fact in J.Cole's apology he said  “I want to educate myself more on Autism.” Anna Kennedy OBE has invited Cole to come along to one of the specialist schools she has set up! (Read more here: http://www.educationforeverybody.co.uk/rap-star-j-cole-challenged-to-go-back-to-school/) I even want to invite J.Cole & Drake to writing a positive track about Autism & the Autism Community! Worth a shot!

Dobbs Polish Adventures!

How y'all doin' y'all? Sorry for not getting on this for a couple of weeks, everything has been kind of manic but enough of the excuses! I'm back to update you on whats been going on.

Couple of weeks ago, I headed off to Poland with a small group of my peers at The Brit School (where I spend my time if I'm not at Break or Home) for an exchange trip that was amazing. If some of you are a bit dubious to whether Poland is interesting or not, let me tell you straight away it is. It is magical, inspiring and awesome.

  Krakow Sunset
  Krakow Sunset

We flew out (early morning *cries*) on Sunday from Stanstead to Krakow Airport so we could have extra time looing around and being touristy in beautiful Krakow. We had lunch in one of the local resturants and then went off around krakow finding peculiar sights, statues and a home-made vodka shop.

Later on in the evening after freshening up, we went out for dinner and checked out what Krakow had to offer in its night life. In fact the nightlife in Poland in general was very vibrant and loving. So much so, I never wanted to leave!

The rest of the week we stayed with a polish student at their home with their family, getting involved in what it was like to be a teenager living in Poland. Let me tell you this, its so universal. We hung out at shopping malls, went cinema & went to resturants and bars. All in all we shared many laughs, love & I'm glad to say I have new international friends.
